Rhinoplasty is commonly performed for one of two purposes (or both): to reshape the nose or to improve functional breathing issues, such as a deviated septum. Dr. Kevin Cook employs his extensive experience as a cosmetic plastic surgeon and his knowledge of facial aesthetics to give the nose a more symmetrical shape while also enhancing the balance among your other facial features. For patients at Midland Plastic Surgery Center who have difficulty breathing through the nose due to a structural abnormality or injury, Dr. Cook can also correct these issues and increase airflow through the nasal passages. With advanced rhinoplasty, Dr. Cook can help you meet your goals with natural-looking results.
Benefits of Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty offers a wide range of benefits, including:
- Straightening a “crooked” nose
- Redefining the tip of the nose
- Reducing the appearance of a high bridge or hump
- Reshaping a broken nose
- Addressing the size and shape of the nose or nostrils
- Improving airflow and ease of breathing
Dr. Cook can customize each rhinoplasty procedure to address your structural and/or functional concerns. Rhinoplasty is a common surgery for both men and women, and has helped many patients all over the world achieve their goals with beautiful results. To learn more about how rhinoplasty can help you meet your individual needs, please schedule a consultation with Dr. Cook today.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Cook will thoroughly analyze your medical history, perform a physical exam, and determine whether you are an ideal candidate for rhinoplasty surgery. These one-on-one conversations give Dr. Cook an opportunity to listen to your unique concerns and goals. By taking the time to inform you of all your options, Dr. Cook enables you to make educated choices about your health and body. If you are deemed a good candidate for rhinoplasty, Dr. Cook can then design a customized surgical approach to achieve the results you desire.
Rhinoplasty is either performed as an “open” or “closed” surgery. With open rhinoplasty, an incision is made beneath the tip of the nose; with closed rhinoplasty, surgical incisions are made completely inside of the nose. In either case, scarring is typically minimal and nearly invisible. During the consultation process, Dr. Cook can help you determine which rhinoplasty technique may best suit your individual needs. In most cases, rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient surgery, requires general anesthesia, and takes about two hours to complete.
Recovery and Results
Some degree of bruising and swelling can be expected immediately following your rhinoplasty. Many patients are able to return to work or other daily activities within three to five days after the procedure. In seven to ten days, patients typically feel more comfortable and confident going out in public; however, it may take several months for all of the swelling to go down and for the final results to be apparent. Dr. Cook recommends you avoid strenuous exercise and activity for four to six weeks to aid in the healing process. Rhinoplasty can provide beautiful results that look natural, helping you renew your facial aesthetic and reduce self-consciousness about the appearance of your nose.
