ThermiRF™ Skin Tightening and Rejuvenation
Smoother, tighter, more supple skin is possible with the FDA-approved ThermiRF™ system. The ThermiRF™ skin tightening system utilizes temperature-controlled radiofrequency and a variety of applicators to treat lax skin and connective tissue in regions of the face and body. At Midland Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Kevin Cook employs the ThermiRF™ system to perform a full spectrum of skin rejuvenating procedures, which include: ThermiTight™, ThermiRase™, ThermiSmooth™, and ThermiVa™.
The ThermiTight™ procedure treats loose skin in several areas of the face and body using the ThermiRF™ system. During the procedure, temperature-controlled radiofrequency energy is delivered with a specialized applicator designed to warm tissue throughout the treatment area. The applied heat contracts the connective tissue layer, melts fat, and stimulates collagen, giving skin a smoother, tighter, more lifted appearance. Common areas treated with ThermiTight™ include underneath the chin, jawline, cheeks, around the eyes, abdomen, thighs, and several other regions of the body. Before initiating the procedure, Dr. Cook maps out the treatment area on the skin to provide direction as he skillfully manipulates the applicator. The region is then numbed with local anesthetic to prevent discomfort during the procedure. Once the area is fully prepared, Dr. Cook then carefully inserts the applicator under the skin to access the targeted tissues. The tissues are then warmed to a specific temperature, which triggers tightening of skin, melting of fat, and stimulation of the production of new collagen over the next three to nine months. Multiple treatments may be recommended to achieve optimal results.
ThermiRase™ can effectively smooth frown lines between the brows without the use of injectable solutions. With a few micro-invasive deliveries of RF energy, the ThermiRase™ procedure interrupts nerve pathways that form frown lines in the area between the eyes and lower forehead, called the glabellar region. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, the ThermiRase™ treatment disables muscular function that leads to deep creasing and wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic results, however, do not generally last as long as ThermiRase™, and some patients develop a resistance to BOTOX® injections. Results of frown line reduction with ThermiRase™ can last between one to two years, and patients who are unresponsive to treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic are often able to achieve long lasting results with ThermiRase™ as an alternative. Before administering treatment, Dr. Cook uses an external nerve stimulator to precisely locate the nerve pathways to address with the ThermiRase™ applicator. Once located, the spots are marked on the skin around the eye to guide treatment. At each marking, a drop of local anesthesia is administered, and then RF energy is applied to the targeted nerve through the applicator. Treatment is typically quick, and the results are often immediate.
ThermiSmooth™ delivers radiofrequency energy into the skin through a wand-like applicator to treat wrinkles and skin laxity in the most delicate areas of the face. During treatment, the areas around the eyes, eyelids, and mouth are gently massaged with the tip of the wand, warming the connective tissue below to a specific target temperature that shrinks the connective tissue layer and stimulates the production of new collagen. After treatment, skin progressively becomes smoother, tighter, and more supple as more collagen is produced. Repeated treatment spaced two to three weeks apart may be recommended to achieve optimal results. The ThermiSmooth™ treatment is completely non-invasive, so there is generally no anesthetic required for this procedure. Many patients describe the process as being quite comfortable, likening it to a hot stone massage.
ThermiVa™ is a revolutionary ThermiRF™ procedure designed to treat female genital laxity and restore some aspects of impaired sexual and urological functioning. Using a specialized applicator, radiofrequency energy is delivered to both internal and external genital tissues to address laxity caused by aging and childbirth. During treatment, the ThermiVa™ wand is first used to warm the tissues of the labia majora and labia minora to achieve skin tightening externally. Treatment may then proceed into the vaginal canal to achieve internal tightening. In addition to tightening the internal and external genital tissue, ThermiVa™ has also been found to stimulate improved mucosal lubrication, treat urinary stress incontinence, and improve orgasmic function in women. As with the other ThermiRF™ procedures, ThermiVA™ condenses the connective tissue layer beneath the skin and stimulates collagen production to continue the tightening effects as the body’s natural repair process progresses. ThermiVa™ is completely non-invasive and virtually painless. Several sessions spaced four weeks apart may be recommended to achieve optimal results.
