Breast Lift with Implants

What is a Breast Lift (Mastopexy) with Implants?

A breast lift with implants—also called augmentation-mastopexy, breast augmentation with a lift, or breast lift with augmentation—is often appropriate for breasts that have both descended and lost volume due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, aging, and/or significant weight loss. The breasts are surgically reshaped and elevated on the chest wall, while breast implants are inserted to restore fullness, contour, and firmness. The nipples may also be resized and repositioned, if necessary.

Many women of various ages and lifestyles become interested in breast lift surgery with implants for its ability to comprehensively rejuvenate the form and appearance of the breasts. At Midland Plastic Surgery Center, our plastic surgeon—Kevin Cook, MD—works closely with every patient to customize treatment based on their unique needs and goals for an ideal outcome. If you are considering a breast lift with implants and want to learn more about the procedure, we invite you to explore the informative sections we have provided below, or simply contact our office today to schedule a consultation.

What Can a Breast Lift with Implants Do for Me?

When breast skin is stretched due to significant changes in breast volume and/or skin aging, the breasts can droop, change shape, and appear deflated. A breast lift with implants can elevate the breasts and enhance their size, with the ultimate goal being the achievement of more youthful and symmetrical-looking breasts. At Midland Plastic Surgery Center, the procedure may be designed with the appropriate breast lift technique and breast implants to accomplish some or all of the following:

  • Restore diminished breast volume
  • Redefine breast shape
  • Improve the appearance of the nipples and areolae
  • Enhance breast firmness
  • Lift the bustline
  • Create more symmetrical breasts
  • Add fullness in the upper pole of the breasts

Overall, the result of a breast lift with implants should be a more balanced, proportionate, and curvy figure that aligns with your specific desires regarding breast size and shape. Frequently, breast lift surgery with implants is incorporated as part of a mommy makeover, which is a combination of procedures aimed at restoring a woman’s pre-motherhood figure.

Who is a Good Candidate for Breast Lift with Implants?

Ideal candidates for breast lift surgery with implants are typically women who are in good overall health and have reasonable expectations about the outcome of the procedure. Most often these women have experienced the following cosmetic concerns after significant weight loss, pregnancy/breastfeeding, hormonal changes, or aging:

  • Loss of breast volume
  • Stretched, inelastic breast skin
  • Drooping or elongated breast shape
  • Significant and/or asymmetrical breast sagging
  • Figure disproportion/imbalance

A personal consultation with Dr. Cook can determine whether or not this procedure is suitable for your goals—or if a breast augmentation or mastopexy on its own would be more appropriate.

How is a Breast Lift with Augmentation Performed?

A breast lift with augmentation is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. Prior to surgery, you and Dr. Cook decide on the right breast implant type, size, shape, and projection, as well as the most suitable breast lift approach for achieving your goals. During the procedure, excess skin is removed, breast tissue is reshaped, and implants are placed to create an ideal breast mound. If necessary, the areolae may be reduced in size and the nipples may be relocated to a more elevated position.

What is Breast Augmentation with a Lift Recovery Like?

After breast lift surgery with implants, a certain degree of soreness, swelling, and bruising can be expected. Significant pain is rare, but medication can effectively control any post-operative discomfort that might occur. Patients typically opt to recover at home for approximately a week, after which they generally feel comfortable returning to work and non-strenuous activities. Dr. Cook will monitor your healing closely and let you know when you may resume more intensive forms of exercise—usually after a few weeks to a month. It is important to attend all post-operative appointments and follow Dr. Cook’s instructions to reduce the likelihood of preventable complications. As the incisions heal further and the breast implants settle over the next few months, the results should continue to improve.

How Much Does a Breast Lift with Implants Cost?

As a highly customizable procedure, exact pricing for a breast lift with implants will be unique to each patient. The surgical approach and breast implants chosen can cause the price to vary widely, which is why it is best to have Dr. Cook assess your needs and develop an accurate estimate in person. Factors that can affect the overall cost for your breast lift with implants may include:

  • Complexity of the surgical plan
  • The type of breast implant selected
  • Breast implant placement
  • Post-operative medications
  • Anesthesiology and hospital fees
  • Surgeon’s fees

It is important to note that more experienced plastic surgeons generally charge higher fees, and the geographic location of the practice can also impact the price.
